The exciting skull sculpture series from King Baby Founder and Chief Designer, Mitchell Binder, continues to shine! Binder recently released the third installment for purchase and it is just as pristine and exquisitely designed as the first two sculptures that came before it. This exclusive series of nearly life-size, sterling silver skull sculptures shows fans the many ways that Mitchell’s designs have continued to push boundaries and evolve into an entirely new level of artistry in the past year. In fact, the newest sculpture has fans excited about the many possibilities of what iconic designs are to come in the years ahead.
The latest edition to the series is another labor of love and took almost six months to complete. The sculpture, which is hand carved with blue sapphires, white diamonds, and 18k gold, clearly shows that Mitchell and his team have expertly perfected the process of casting, assembling, and soldering larger one-of-a-kind pieces of art. The intricate detail involved in not only stone placement, but the hand carving itself, does not go unnoticed by the artisan eye.
The main difference between this skull and its predecessors (apart from the exact, individual designs of each) is that this third sculpture uses quite a bit more gold and larger gemstones than the previous two. This piece truly sparkles! In fact, the uniquely intentional use of gold over the brow of the skull gives this sculpture an even more regal feel, making it the future star of any true King Baby collection.
Just like the other two sculptures that came before it, this dazzling piece will come encased in a King Baby glass display with a sterling silver etched plate autographed by Mitchell himself. Currently, this new installment is on display at the flagship King Baby Santa Monica store for those who want to see this work of art in person… and believe us, you definitely want to witness this piece firsthand! If this new skull is any indication of how intricate and powerful the rest of the series will be, King Baby fans should keep their eyes peeled for the remaining iconic designs that are surely to come from this exciting, new series.
]]>King Baby founder and Chief Designer, Mitchell Binder, began his silversmithing career as a young teen in LA. Since that time, he has always been fascinated by the limitless possibilities of the precious metal as an artistic medium. Mitchell has been pushing himself artistically for many years (something King Baby fans can recognize in his unique and detailed designs) and he has decided to push the limits of his silversmithing artistry in both size and scale.
Many Chosen Few fans will be happy to know that Mitchell has produced his most exciting design to date and it is for sale as a piece of art you can display in your home, office, or retail shop: a 5lb, near life-size, sterling silver skull sculpture.
This new endeavor is a true passion project come to fruition. Mitchell says he’s been wanting to create larger scale silver sculptures for quite some time, but needed to perfect a new way to cast the size of the piece he wanted. As large metal sculptures are traditionally cast differently than jewelry,Mitchell was excited to rise to meet the challenge. He and the King Baby team honed and developed a way to cast, assemble, and solder this one-of-a-kind piece. The entire process took a total of six months to complete.
The pure size and scale of the skull aren't the only facets of the piece that push sculptural creative boundaries. This particular piece also includes rubies, diamonds, and 18k gold accents, so not only was a new way to produce the silver piece presented, but a new way to marry and set other precious metals and gemstone elements as well.
It comes as no surprise that this won’t be the only sculptural piece to appear in the King Baby roster - this piece is one of five that will be produced over time. Each skull will be completely unique and come encased in a glass display with a sterling silver etched plate autographed by Mitchell himself. And the most exciting part to all of this? Mitchell hopes to establish a foundry to create even larger scale pieces in the future! So keep your eyes peeled, King Baby fans, for more exciting works of art to come from this unstoppable creative force.
]]>The years have elapsed and King Baby’s new Rotor Link Bracelets are making their debut in the Birth of Americana Collection. The bracelets -- in two sizes -- combine Mitchell’s favorite production techniques: casting, fabricating and engraving, all in one burly, assertive statement. Mechanical pins hold the links firmly, but allow even the large, seven-row model a freedom of movement that creates a liquid, form-fitting comfort.
Mitchell has been wearing the Rotor Link Bracelet for a couple of weeks, as he does with any new design before he’s sure it’s ready for his Chosen customers. In his words, “I’m really happy with the results.” King Baby doesn’t sell jewelry until it’s ready, even if that takes ten years.

When Glenn Hughes stood on that stage in Brooklyn -- clearly a maverick in his wide-striped suit, dripping with Roll ‘n’ Roll jewelry -- Mitchell Binder was justifiably proud to see a Top Hat Turquoise ring on the Deep Purple bassist’s finger, big and bold enough to play to the back rows of the theater. It was the feeling a writer gets, seeing his novel on the Best-Seller list. Or a painter admiring his own work on the wall at MOMA. Or a custom jeweler watching his good friend earn long-delayed recognition for a monumental contribution to rock music while wearing a King Baby hand-crafted ring for the world to see. That’s how Mitchell felt, and you’d feel the same.
Glenn Hughes, like so many of King Baby’s customers, isn’t just a customer. He’s a fan and a hang-out buddy. He knows that Mitchell’s designs come from the same inner creative place that makes music, literature -- any art possible, so he appreciates more than just the product. He appreciates the man behind the product. King Baby - and Mitchell - returns the sentiment.

Mitchell Binder displayed items from his new American Craft collection, along with his most elegant and distinctive rings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants and accessories.
King Baby invariably catches the eye of jaded Baselworlders -- after taking in a thousand or two pieces of straight-ahead jewelry, who isn’t going to notice a Turquoise skull, a bull-ring bracelet or an American Craft ring adorned with an anvil? These people know their jewelry, and they know hand-craftsmanship when they see it. A big success for Mitchell and King Baby on the world stage!
King Baby is about to come out with a new jewelry collection, aptly named AMERICAN CRAFT. Mitchell Binder is American, the materials that go into his jewelry designs are sourced in the United States, and each individual piece is handmade from scratch in Santa Monica, CA and Nashville, TN.
In this video Mitchell speaks of how, through most of history, everything was made by hand, down to the forged spikes that held railroad tracks to their ties. Relatively recently, people have grown so accustomed to mass-produced goods that they’re astonished when they see the way King Baby jewelry comes to life: one piece at a time, crafted by skilled, experienced hands using equipment most of which would have been familiar to jewelers, iron-mongers and metalworkers going back hundreds of years.
The American Craft Collection is Mitchell’s way of celebrating the heft and solidity of America’s past, as seen in our railroads, our industry and the everyday experience of living with unique items that rely on the skillful, expert touch of individual craftsmen.

]]>Valentine’s Day offers an opportunity to let the woman -- or women -- in your life know how unique and bold they are in your eyes.
The King Baby team has selected a few choice items to help you decide how you’re going to send her a powerful message: “You’re my Valentine.”
A present from King Baby tells your man you think he’s unique, that you see his inner maverick and want to help him put it out there for the world to see.
Our team has curated a few choice pieces of jewelry to fit every budget, gifts that will send a heartfelt message: “You’re my Valentine.”
“Heirloom” is a word first found in 15th-Century English, a hybrid from ayre lome. An heir is the recipient of treasures that are handed down between generations; a “loom” is a tool, an implement, with which the heir can make a living or enrich his or her life in a meaningful way.
Heirloom jewelry is classical in form and style. It adheres to design principles of quality, appearance and significance that have stood the test of time; it is made of precious and semi-precious natural materials; it embodies memorable aspects of its era; it is not mass-produced. King Baby designs exemplify all of those elements: when you adorn yourself with a piece of Mitchell Binder’s meticulously crafted body-art, you’re wearing a piece of jewelry that not only projects your own bold personality -- it is unique and can be treasured by generations to come.
]]>Mines that produce the finest, rarest turquoise tend to be modest in size. “Top Hat” -- Mitchell Binder’s preferred source near Tonopah, Nev. -- is humorously named for its pit being “so small, you can cover it with a top hat.” Mitchell’s designs capture a perfect balance between silver’s solid, neutral gleam and the greens and browns of this unique spotted turquoise. King Baby's Arrayed Cabochon Ring creates the sense of gazing into a shimmering underground pool; this Baroque Scroll Ring, features a stone that reveals more of the host’s matrix and an astronaut’s-eye view of space with asteroids hurtling past.
Each stone in Mitchell’s collections is carefully chosen and sculpted to maximize the beauty and mystery inherent in the natural structure and composition of turquoise. Handcrafted from scratch for The Chosen Few.

In the King Baby tradition, every item makes bold statement, incorporating Indian’s famous trademarks and projecting the muscular beauty that Indian Motorcycle® has built into its bikes for more than a century. American-made down to their last molecule, Indian’s massively elegant bikes and King Baby’s iconic jewelry make an ideal marriage of attitude, originality and exquisite craftsmanship.
The collection will be sold exclusively at KingBaby.com, King Baby stores and select Indian Motorcycle® dealerships.
As a youngster coming up in Jackson, Mississippi, Mitchell Binder was fascinated with motorcycles and the maverick culture that embraced big, noisy American machines. He admired the way outlaw riders adorned themselves with in-your-face insignias and relics that shocked delicate sensibilities: they said “Keep Out!” to anyone not prepared to live a defiant, outsider lifestyle. Mitchell absorbed the power of this motif into his veins but also, as a budding artist, suspected there were ways it could be polished into a statement just as emotionally stirring, but more refined.
Mitchell moved to Los Angeles in the early 70’s, apprenticed himself to a jewelry maker and started developing his own designs. It was a heady time of rock ‘n’ roll, non-conformism and experimentation. While fully committed to the counterculture, Mitchell kept his head about him, focusing on his personal aesthetic and the demanding skills required to express it in cast metal and natural materials.
It was no accident that Mitchell’s elegant-yet-provocative jewelry caught the attention of rockers and film personalities who wanted to project their individuality. What is a celebrity but someone who radiates an intoxicating aura of uniqueness and daring? Mitchell didn’t merely sell jewelry to heavyweights like Keith Richards and Johnny Depp, Kid Rock and Jennifer Lopez -- he got to know them and to understand how he could help them express their distinctive selves, becoming a friend and collaborator to some of the best-known faces on the planet. In 2000, he founded King Baby®, whose style and impact is today synonymous, the world over, with Mitchell’s byline: “For the Chosen Few.”
The Indian Motorcycle® brand reflects that same guiding principle. Its bikes date from the first days of the 20th Century, when internal combustion was in its infancy. Though the original design -- America’s first motorcycle -- was basically a bicycle-with-a-motor, by 1905 Indian had developed its first monster V-Twin and soon dominated the racing scene. Through two world wars and a depression, Indian maintained its reputation: to be ridden by the intrepid.
In 2011, Polaris Industries acquired Indian Motorcycle and breathed magic into its legendary designs. Blending modern manufacturing technology with traditional style, the company began producing the biggest, burliest, most impressive motorcycles anyone had seen in several generations. American road warriors were ready for a choice of massive V-Twin hogs, and the new Indian Motorcycle gave it to them.
Mitchell Binder’s meticulously hand-crafted, Indian-inspired jewelry line captures the spirit of the chosen few who might aspire to ride such a machine.

Participants come from around the world to join in a week-long celebration of art, community and self-expression on the Playa. This year King Baby made it out for the burn and joined with 70,000 others. Crazy stories aside, we\'ve brought you this photo series to give you an idea of what goes on in the desert...
The road and entrance to Black Rock City can be backed up for miles. In our case this meant an additional 12 hour wait just to get in.
Although the festival only lasts for a week, the Black Rock City blueprint is reminiscent of a sun dial grid with streets and addresses.
Once inside, leave your car at camp and hide the keys. Bicycles are the main method of travel in Black Rock City.
Massive art and tech instalations are scattered throughout the Playa. Burners spend the week exploring and connecting in creative ways.
The Temple Of Grace takes on a new ornate design every year.
DJ\'s, music, and dancing are found everywhere on the Playa at all hours. Burners adorned in colorful and often bizarre costumes congregate around these sound stages.
When the sun goes down, the desert explodes in light. Art cars and mutant vehicles travel about with massive sound systems.
Year after year The Man commands the center focal point of Black Rock City. On Saturday The Man and most other installations are burned, and the city begins to again fade into the dust.
Witnessing the burn of Loving Embrace.
A bold feature in the dust, the King Baby Medusa Pendant makes a strong statement.
For many, Burning Man has become an incubater for radical expression and personal development. In the end, all that is left of the city are the memories that were created in the moment.
